“White Lilacs” by Robert O. Adair

There she stood,

framed by white lilac bushes,

holding some in her arms.

They were his favorite flower,

fragrant and lovely!

She was the prettiest girl

he had ever seen,

corn silk hair,

in a white ruffly,

organdie dress

with a sky blue sash.

It was love at first sight!

After her tragic death

he was inconsolable!

This vision haunted him

wherever he went,

trying to forget!

Again and again

the sound of her pleasing,

vibrant voice,

floating on the breeze

and the fragrance of white lilacs!
