“Candy Ghazal” by Sarah Stahl

The spoils I give, turned trick-or-treat candy,
I feel like a hooker named Rotten Candy.

Is it sweetness when you tell white lies
To hide the bitter truth you can't candy?

Craving lucrative cavity's rot and decay,
Was a dentist the first to invent candy?

Rivulets of sweat veins soaking my clothes
My skin is melting like dark chocolate candy.

Grief opens the sinus paths-a release
Sort of like sucking a peppermint candy.

The meeting! My breath! Onions and brandy!
Through my pocket I wormed for gummy candy.

Honey, to suckle your taste reminds me
Of the birds, and the bees, making love's candy.

Sweet Fluffy needs a new hairball tonic,
Hacking up tufts of grey cotton candy.

Sarah taffies out words, stretching confection.
These lines I skein out like ribbons of candy.
