The Poet’s Haven presents… “Is Anybody Listening?” by Vladmir Swirynsky

Vladimir Swirynsky led a normal life for 45 years. On his first visit to Mardi Gras, he was swept away by the music, the sights and energy of a million people, helping inspire him to become a writer. Poetry has played an important part in him overcoming his inhibitions. He has performed in most of the major cities and he has devoted a good portion of his time to reading for the elderly and at veteran homes. He hopes to save enough money so he can get his car fixed, get plates, and after 50 years finally leave Ohio and settle out west. His new home will be where his car decides to break down, hopefully Arizona.

The Poet’s Haven presents… “Metamorphosis: Selections” by Jacob Oet

Jacob Oet‘s writing and images appear in Cream City Review, Illuminations, Yemassee, Yalobusha Review, and Radioactive Moat, among others. His awards include the 2011 Younkin-Rivera Poetry Prize and the 2011 Ohioana Robert Fox Award. Jacob is the author of two poetry chapbooks: Metamorphosis (Kattywompus Press) and Peeling the Apple (NightBallet Press). A student by choice, Jacob is never sure which language he speaks. You may spot him in a park, forest, or beach, with planted feet, arms stretched up and shaking in a breeze. But don’t let him see you; he likes to sing to strangers. He takes photos of snow, and hates winter.

The Poet’s Haven presents… “Maybe / This Time” by Rachel Shortt

Rachel Shortt describes her style as “a little folk, a little funk, and a little soul.” Her provocative lyrics are poetic in their elegant simplicity and ability to stand alone, but with the overlay of Rachel’s instrumental artistry, her original work provides a bold new language for those who seek a sound with passion and purpose. While Rachel is most notable with one of her many guitars slung over her shoulder, she also plays coronet, bass, cello, and has been known to try her hands at the drum set. Ask her fans and they will tell you she is an expert with the water whistle. As a native Clevelander, Rachel has performed in both large and small venues, from the House of Blues and Kent Stage to cafés and charity events. Rachel is sheer proof that all it takes to achieve a sound of beauty and sophistication is a woman and her guitar. Her intense stage presence is raw and uninhibited. At each performance, Rachel captivates her audience with a personal connection and fan engagement that is unique to that particular show.

The Poet’s Haven presents… “A Day Without Wittgenstein” by Terry Provost

Terry Provost was born and raised in Troy, then Waterford, New York. He is the son of two high school teachers, and has one sister. He studied physics because he wanted to become a lawyer. He went on to work in R&D for a company that manufactured MRI scanners. When he grew tired of that, he traveled the world in search of answers to big questions. Along the way, he began writing poetry. In 2004, his first book “Compassionate Imperialism (and its ‘links to terror’) was published by Deep Cleveland Press. In 2011, “An Uncountable Infinity of Orgasms” was published by NightBallet Press. He still hasn’t found the answers to the big questions, except what a happy marriage and a beautiful son can bring. Between poems he can be found teaching math at Cuyahoga Community College, where he is an adjunct faculty member. More of Terry’s work can be found (and even heard) at his blog, Chomsky in Chains.
