“Eyes Wide Open” by Leslie Milliken

My dreams are my safety zone
     because they aren't real
     no matter the tears
It's when I'm awake
     that I should be scared
     and have to fear
In the deep abyss of slumber
     is where my imagination runs
It's when I'm conscious
that the fun is over and done
In my R.E.M. sleep I'm taken away
     floating, flying, anything can happen
I only worry when I see the real things go on
     with my eyes wide open
