Fear
by Felica Devers

i am unsure of what to say to you
i am afraid of being the cause of the pain in your eyes
i so want to make our dreams come true
i so want to create a reality with you;
but i am afraid way down deep inside
that maybe you're not ready to try;
ghosts from your past still linger in the space between
when we stand, when we lay, when we dream;
whispers from the voices in my head
tell me to give you room to fly, yet i dread
the thought of actually letting you go,
will you find your way back to me
or will the song of the siren so loud and near
pull you back into her maelstrom of tears;
i cannot get us both to shore-
i need to feel you have the strength within,
with me or without to resist the fall into your abyss of doubt-
more than i can find the words to say
i want you to go forward with the courage of a thousand men,
and with your mended wings soar high above the clouds
to a world of beauty, peace and happiness
where you can once again reclaim your
rightful place beside the other majestic creatures of the sky
               in the eagles' nest.
