“Hands in Front of Our Mouths at Harvard” by Kelley White

we students laughed at

the lacerated man who fell out of bed after
     making love
          into a bowl
               of buttered popcorn

the woman who swallowed
     her own
          engagement ring

the little boy
     who got his arm
          stuck inside
               a toy cannon

the baby whose arm
     went down the sink
while he was taking a bath

me, in the elevator
     with mismatched shoes

     fainting flat away
          in the OR
               that first day
