“The Lake of Absolute Charm” by Jacob Erin-Cilberto

the old lampshade leans
fisherman counts his hooks
whispering
minnows swim free, partying by the shore
just a few steps from his bad intentions---

unaware tomorrow will make them enticement
for the excitement
of the chase

to pluck the heart out of some well built fin
finessed
of grace
causing her strokes to become errant
and chaotic

and the truth to become the weeds she hides in
as the next bait is thoughtlessly flung
in her direction.
