“Madame Butterfly: The Opera” by Robert O. Adair

The music flows
like a mighty river,
outward and upward,
soaring to the heavens,
so beautiful, so sad!
So full of longing
of the soul for
that love and peace
which is not
to be found on Earth.
In Madame Butterfly
we see a pure soul,
loving, loyal, faithful,
longing for love
and fulfillment
in the love and caresses
of a true lover.
All this is not to be!
It is the tragedy of bestowing
all this on one
who is not worthy of it
and cannot reciprocate.
Butterfly, such a poetic name
for a woman who is, herself, a true poem!
How foolish of me to weep for her!
