“Love In the First Degree” by John Grey

I am in the middle of tragedy
but I am breathing.
Car wreck, train-crash,
I'm ok, go help the others.

What a life.
Bullets flying, bodies falling,
yet I stand straight as a flag-pole,
and yes I'm waving.

I can't be killed until I die,
that must be the secret.
Drive-bys miss, rocks thrown
in anger brush my ear-lobe.

Come join me where it's safe
until you die as well.
We'll flout our survival
whenever disasters strike.

For that's life isn't it.
All for the best in the worst
that can happen. Here, kiss me.
love me. Hate is watching.
