“Small Town” by Abigail Shipley

Rumors speed through this no-stoplight town at

100 miles per hour.

She said, that he said, that I said,

“We need to get us some life in this here town,”

When in fact my words are,

“I love this town and would spend the rest of my life here if I could.”

With the painted red sky in the morning,

We are the people who tell the sailors to take warning.

With the red sky at night;

In the moon and stars we will delight.

It will be in this farm land,

I will raise my children and say

“I am proud to be an American!”
